Congratulations to Locomotive and Longton Snooker A who were both victorious in Mondays Cup Finals.
Locomotive managed to overcome Division One runners up Green Baize A in what turned out to be a long drawn out affair. With 3 frames left Locomotive needed just one frame to take the Knockout Cup. But the Green Baize A managed to battle back to 4 each. The final frame was a touchy feely affair that was eventually taken by Tim Wager of the Locomotive.
Longton Snooker A pulled off a shock in the Knockout Sub Cup by beating Division Two Champions Locomotive B 5-3. After going two nil down Longton managed to find a foothold in the 3 frame and never looked back after that.

The first ever Handicap Venue Cup Final will be between Locomotive and Green Baize A. Green Baize and Joker A met at the Green Baize in another chapter of their toe to toe rivalry that has grown this season. After clinching the League title last week the Joker A boys were looking to finish the season with another Cup Final appearance, but Baize A had other ideas. League runners up Baize A managed to make home advantage count by eventually winning 5-3. Locomotive progressed to the final after a 5-2 away victory at the Longton Pool Pussys.
In the Sub competition Green Baize B will meet Longton Snooker A. Longton Snooker A ended the dreams of the Old Sal who were looking to make a cup final appearance in their first season in the league. Green Baize B caused somewhat of an upset by turning over John Marston Five Nil. Baize went into this game in confident mood after defeating Division Two champions Loco B last week. That victory gave Baize B the runners up spot in the second division and they will be looking forward to mixing it in the higher league next season.
A reminder that there is a meeting at the Green Baize this Thursday 8pm. Please bring along any missing result sheets and any outstanding monies. Thank You.

Joker A took the unconventional route but eventually managed to claim the 2011/2012 LSC Monday Pool League Division One Championship. The only two left in the running for the title, Joker A and Green Baize A, had away fixtures at Longton Snooker and Pool Club. Sitting at the top of the table before the start, Joker A were obvious favourites to claim the silverware but they did not reckon upon Longton Potters claiming an unlikely victory against them. Potters will be delighted to claim a morale boosting 5-4 victory against the Joker A. Before the start Joker A would have feared any defeat would cost them the title, but at the other end of the pool hall Longton Pool Pussys were completing a second half of a league double against the Green Baize A. Pussys finished up comfortable 7-2 victors to leave Baize A ruing a golden chance to win the league by finishing the season with successive defeats. Locomotive managed to finish level with Baize on points, but behind them on frames won. Locomotive finish 3rd, after defeating Cuckoo 5-4, and will be looking to the cups to finish their season with some glory. John Marston beat Longton Snooker B 6-3 to finish in the top half of the table.
The Champions in Division Two had already been decided but Locomotive B will be disappointed not to have finished the season with a 100% league record. Green Baize B knew a victory over the Champions was essential if they were to finish as Division Two runners up, and managed to deliver by winning 5-4. Sea Lion finish in 3rd after finishing their season with a 6-3 victory at the Joker B who flattered to deceive in the 2nd half of the season. Longton Snooker C finish 4th after beating Longton Snooker A 5-4. Longton Snooker C will be hoping for a stronger start in the league next season to aid their challenge for honours. The Windmill couldn't put out a side against Old Sal who claim the victory for their 1st points of the season.
Congratulations then go to Joker A and Locomotive B who are our 2011/2012 league champions.

No games today because of the Easter Bank Holiday.
In a rearranged Singles Merits Quarter Final match played this week Melvin Archer (Joker A) beat Carl Pitt (Green Baize A) 5-3.

This years Knockout Cup Final will be contested between Locomotive and Green Baize A. Locomotive met Green Baize B in their semi final at the Loco. Second Division Green Baize B started well and looked like they could pull off a shock victory against Division One side Locomotive, but Locomotive managed to get in their stride and pulled off a flattering 5-2 victory. In the second semi it was a clash of the 'Big Two', Joker A currently lead Division One in front of Green Baize A but tonight it was the second placed Green Baize A that came out on top. A clash that always promised to be close did not fail to live up to expectations. Eventually Baize took the ninth frame to be 5-4 victors.
In the Knockout Sub Cup Final, Locomotive B will meet Longton Snooker A. Longton Snooker A pulled off a coup for the second division by beating Division One Longton Potters 5-3. In the other semi Longton Snooker C will be disappointed that they couldn't get over the final hurdle and set up an all Longton Final. 'C' took Division Two champions Locomotive B all the way to the 9th frame but couldn't sneak past the winning post.
26/03/2012
Congratulations to Liam Flaherty from Longton Snooker B, who tonight became the first winner of the LSC Monday Pool League One Frame Knockout competition. Liam booked his place in the final by beating his team mate Mickey Dawson in the semi finals. In the final he met Darren Finikin of Green Baize A who had been using the bonus of home turf to his advantage. Darren had seen off a tough challenge from Leanne Cragg of Longton Pool Pussys in his semi final clash.
In the 'Sub' competition John Hurst from the Joker A led home the first round losers by beating Adrian Davies of Locomotive B in the final. John saw off Dave Williams from Longton Potters in the semi finals, with a very tidy 8 ball. Adrian beat off the challenge of Tom Lovatt Jnr in his semi final game.
This tournament proved to be a great succes, and will now hopefully become an annual feature on the Monday night calendar. Thank you to the 32 entrants and also a big thank you to the Green Baize for their hospitality.

The race for the Division One title took another twist tonight, as Green Baize A were defeated by Locomotive. Baize A had only recently taken top spot from Joker A and looked favourites for the title, Joker A managed to take advantage to return to the top. Despite home advantage against Locomotive Green Baize A couldn't win a fifth frame against Locomotive to take the points. Joker A return to the summit after a very good 7-2 victory over what can be a dangerous Longton Pool Pussys side. At Longton, Longton Potters were 'away' at Longton Snooker B. Second from bottom Potters managed to pull off somewhat of a suprise by coming out 5-4 victors to claim the local bragging rights. John Marston managed to pull off a 7-2 win over Cuckoo.
In the Second Division Locomotive B carried on their crusade towards a perfect season with their 13th win out of 13. In the process they put an end to Joker B's aspirations of finishing as runners up. A comprehensive 7-2 victory showed that next season Locomotive B could be a force in the top division. Green Baize B could have taken advantage of Joker B's defeat in the race for second place, but they also lost, 5-4 away at Longton Snooker C. Sea Lion defeated Old Sal 6-3 to give themselves an outside chance of the Runners Up spot. In the other Division Two match Longton Snooker managed to return home with a victory after grinding out a 5-4 win at the Windmill.

The winners of the 2012 doubles competition are from........ THE GREEN BAIZE. I can be so confident in my prediction because all 4 pairings in the Semi Finals are from the 2 Green Baize teams. The four pairs are Gomm/Pitt, Moors/Mears and Finikin/Bennison from Green Baize A, they are joined by Stevenson/Wilson from Green Baize B.
In the Sub Doubles the 4 pairings are Baldwin/Moss (Green Baize B), Lear/Hazeldine (Loco B), Drakeford/Harper (Longton Potters) and Hart/Davies (John Marstons).
The Finals night will be held at the Green Baize on the 28th May 2012.

The Division One title race has been blown wide open tonight after the Green Baize A beat top of the table Joker A 6-3. With 2 games to go both sides are now tied on 20 points. Locomotive look to have almost secured third place after seeing off an under strength John Marstons side 6-3. Longton Snooker B will be delighted to have seen off Longton Pool Pussys 6-3 and keep themselves on course for a top half finish. In the final Division One game, Longton Potters overcame Cuckoo. This match was also a 6-3.
In Division Two bottom of the league Top Vine managed to stop Locomotive B from winning the league tonight, this though by rearranging their fixture for another date! Green Baize B managed to keep a little bit of pressure on the league leaders by visiting Longton Snooker A and getting a tidy 6-3 win. Sea Lion got the result of the night by beating the Windmill 8-1, this result will be sure to give Sea Lion some confidence going into next weeks Cup games. Longton Snooker C managed to overcome selection difficulties and beat Joker B 5-4 on away soil.

Singles merits Quarter Finals night threw up some interesting match ups in both the Main Singles and the Sub Singles.
The main singles saw 2 matches played, 1 rearranged due to holidays and 1 that had a no show. At the Green Baize it was A vs B as Green Baize A's Gary Bennison scraped through with a final frame win against the B's Ian Stevenson. John Marstons was the place for result of the round, as up and coming star Liam Flaherty of Longton Snooker B showed no mercy to new over 50s player Ade Gomm. Liam coming out 5-1 victor in this one sided affair. Adam Moss is the third player through to the Semi Final, he goes through after Michael Bruce didn't turn up. Melvin Archer and Carl Pitt will do battle for the 4th and final Semi Final place.
In the Sub Tournament Tony Hazledine claimed the bragging rights in the game of two Locomotive B players. Tony overcame Wayne Lear 5-2 to book his place in the Semis. He will be joined by 2 players from the other Locomotive side. Both Mark Ruscoe and Andy Brammer overcame opponents from Longton Potters, Mark was taken to the death by Carl Hamilton and Andy defeated Nathan Norbury in a close 5-3. Adrian Davies couldn't make it a full house for Loco as he was white washed by Craig Davis of the John Marston.

Tonight was the 1st round of the New Handicap Cup, the Handicap in this is that the lower ranked side gets the home advantage. The only side to make home advantage count though were Sea Lion who defeated the Division Two league leaders Locomotive B, 5-4. Cuckoo hosted Longton Potters who returned with very good 5-1 victory. In an all Longton clash the A side met the C side and the C side took advantage of a favourable away draw by coming out 5 nil victors. Division 1 leaders Joker A were pushed all the way by the Green Baize B, sneaking the final frame to shade the match 5-4. The Green Baize A side visited the Old Sal and returned with a faultless 5-0 victory. Locomotive visited the John Marston and managed to avoid a potential banana skin and win 5-2. Longton Snooker B will join the above named teams in the hat for the Quarter Finals after winning a final frame thriller against Division Two side Joker B. Windmill unfortunately couldn't field a side against Longton Pool Pussys and subsequently drop out of this competition and out of the Handicap Sub tournament.
The draw for the Quarter Finals and the 1st round of the Sub Tournament will be made at the next meeting.
06/02/2012
Congratulations to Joker A and Locomotive B who winners of the Chairmans and Secretaries Cups respectively.
Joker A overcame Locomotive 5-2 in a one sided affair that was always controlled by the Division One leaders from the start. Their experienced team of Melvin Archer, Paul Ward, John Hurst and Simon Carter will be hoping that this is just the first of many pieces of silverware that they can get their hands on this year.
The Secretaries Cup was a much closer affair, Joker B raced into a lead that threatened to upset the form book before Locomotive B regained their composure and showed why they are currently untouchable in Division Two. As the game headed into the 9th frame it was the Loco B that edged it to lift the trophy. Joker B can be proud of their performance and will be hoping to take this form into the Handicap Venue Cup next week. As with the Joker A, Locomotive B will be hoping to get their hands on plenty more silverware come the end of the season. Their team of Wayne Lear, Mike Clunn, Tony Hazledine and Adrian Davies are on the verge of claiming the Division Two title and are in the last 4 of the Knock Out Sub Cup.

The first league matches of 2012 went much the same way as the 2011 matches. In Division One Joker A continued their march towards the title with a 7-2 demolition of a strong looking Longton Snooker A. Green Baize A though are hot on the heals of the leaders and will be looking to pounce if Joker A slip up. Baize A defeated Cuckoo 8-1. In third place, and needing the wheels to fall off both of the top two, are Locomotive. Locomotive scraped a 5-4 victory against a resilient Longton Potters side. The fourth game in Division One was another close run thing as John Marstons edged out the Longton Pool Pussys 5-4 at the Longton.
The Locomotive B were almost derailed for the first time in the league as Sea Lion ran them close before Loco sneaked a 5-4 win away from home. A change of venue couldn't bring a change of luck for Old Sal (formerly Top Vine) as they suffered an 8-1 home defeat to Green Baize B. Longton Snooker A are showing that they can string a few good results together with a hard fought 5-4 victory over Joker B. The final match of game week 10 was at the Windmill, where Longton Snooker C recovered some of their early season form and blew the Windmill away with an excellent 8-1 win.

The second annual running of the 3 Man competition again proved to be a roaring success. 11 of the 16 teams turned a team out and of those 11, 4 fielded a 2nd side. Giving a total of 15 teams. This years competition was sponsored by Andrews Bedding and Blinds who donated the two team trophies.
Winners of the main competition were Green Baize C (Green Baize A's 2nd side) who defeated Green Baize A in the final 2-1.

After the prolonged Christmas break it was straight into Cup action for all teams as the Knockout Cup reached the Quarter Final stage and the 1st round losers kicked in with the Sub Knockout Cup.
The main Knockout Cup Quarter Finals didn't spring any suprises as the usual suspects progressed through to the Semi Finals, Division One leaders Joker A were made to work for their passage through by Longton Snooker B who eventually succumbed 5-3. Green Baize A, who are hot on the heals of Joker A in the league also progressed courtesy of an impressive 5-0 victory over Joker B. Green Baize have two representatives in the last four as Green Baize B also won by the same margin, making them the only team from Division Two to make it through this far. The fourth side to reach the Semis are Locomotive, who edged past Longton Pool Pussys 5-3 on home turf.
The Sub Knockout Semi Finals are dominated by sides from Longton Snooker. Longton Snooker A, Longton Snooker C and Longton Potters have all progressed and are joined in the last four by Locomotive B. Locomotive B cruised past higher division opposition by beating John Marstons 5-1 at the Marstons. Longton Snooker A travelled to the Old Sal to play the team formerly known as the Top Vine, and returned home with a tidy 5-2 victory. Longton Potters met Cuckoo for the umpteenth time this season and this time prospered with a 5-0 win. The third Longton Side in the hat for the next round are Longton C who blew the Windmill away 5-1.
The Semi Finals will be played on the 2nd April 2012, the draws will be made at the next meeting which is at the John Marstons on 26th January.

21/12/2011
Apologies to all for the lack of updates, I have been in the Internet wilderness for the last 5 weeks so haven't been able to update the website as normal. I will try and recap what has been an interesting and eventful period.
21/11/11
The league found its first finalists of the 2011/2012 season, Locomotive and Joker A will meet in the Chairmans Cup final and the Secretaries Cup will be contested by Locomotive B and Joker B.
Locomotive reached the final of the Chairmans Cup by defeating Cuckoo 5-2 at the Cuckoo, Joker A made home advantage count by beating the Longton Pool Pussys 5-3. The form book suggests that Joker will go into the final as distinct favourites, they currently occupy top spot in Division One and overcame Locomotive 5-4 at the Loco in their only meeting so far this season. Loco though will go into the final relishing the opportunity to try and turn the form book upside down and get their hands on the trophy.
The finals night should prove interesting as the Secretaries Cup will be contested by sides from the same venues as the Chairmans Cup. Joker B pulled out a strong performance to come away from the Sea Lion with a 5-3 victory. They will meet Locomotive B who have been having a very impressive season since joining the league late. If league form is anything to go by then the Locomotive B should be very hard to beat, but in the Cup league form counts for nothing.
28/11/11
The return to league action saw all away teams in Division One prosper, Longton Snooker B visited Cuckoo and returned with the points after a 6-3 victory. Locomotive made a light work of what looked like a tricky fixture against Longton Pool Pussys and got a 7-2 win. Top of the table Joker A carried on their march towards the title with an impressive 7-2 win at the John Marston. Green Baize A also recorded victory by the same score to stay hot on the heals of the Joker A. Longton Potters were their unfortunate opponents.
Division Two saw a shock at the top as Green Baize B surrendered to the Sea Lion 6-3 at the Baize, Locomotive B made the most of this slip up with a mightily impressive 8-1 win over Longton Snooker C. Longton Snooker A carried on their unpredictable season with a good 7-2 victory at the Top Vine. Joker B received a 9-0 win against Windmill as Windmill couldn't put out a side.
05/12/11
The merits are now taking shape as both the Main and Sub Singles are now down to the Quarter Finals. The last 8 of the Singles Merits is dominated by Players from the Green Baize as they have 4 players through and possibly one other after a rearranged game takes place. The 'A' side are represented by Carl Pitt and G Bennison and the 'B' are represented by Adam Moss and Ian Stevenson. Joker A have Melvin Archer in the Quarters, he will fancy his chances after a tidy victory over another of the favourites John Pullin. Longton Snooker B have 2 players in the last 8, Liam Flaherty and Michael Bruce will be hoping to avoid each other in the next round. The last place in the Quarter Finals will go to either Ade Gomm or Dave Smith after this game was called off.
The Sub Singles is made up of 5 Locomotive players, 2 Longton Potters' and 1 from the John Marstons, Locomotive B have Tony |Hazledine, Wayne Lear and Adrian Davies who will all fancy taking the scalp and bragging rights against one of Locomotives players Andy Brammer or Mark Ruscoe. Carl Hamilton defeated one of his team mates in the last 16 so he wont be afraid of facing team mate Nath Norbury in the QF's. Craig Davies is the lone representive from the John Marstons.
12/12/11
The Fixtures on the 12th December saw the start of the 2nd half of the season, the reverse fixtures from game week 7 threw up all the same victors. Joker A kept their vice like grip on top spot with a final frame thriller against the John Marston who were unlucky not to avenge the defeat from a fortnight before. Both Green Baize A and Locomotive both recorded the same 7-2 victories as in the previous game round. Longton Snooker B were made to sweat by the Cuckoo who are still looking to record their first league win.
In Division Two Locomotive again dispatched Longton Snooker C, this time 7-2. Green Baize B avenged their previous defeat by this time beating Sea Lion 5-4 at the Sea Lion. Longton Snooker A made it a double over Top Vine, not as convinving this time but they scraped to the required 5 for victory. Windmill managed to get a team together for the visit of Joker B and duly won 6-3.
19/12/11
In the last games before a 2 week break Joker A and Locomotive B both hold the positions as Christmas Number One in their respective divisions.

Cuckoo will be hoping to continue their impressive Chairmans Cup campaign next week and turn the tables on Locomotive who will visit the Cuckoo again in confident mood after an 8-1 league victory this week. Longton Snooker came away with the points after a close 5-4 win over the John Marston.
In Division Two Green Baize B lost their 100% record at the Locomotive, as Loco B won 5-4 and carried on their march up the league. Longton Snooker C claimed the local bragging rights as they defeated Longton Snooker A 7-2. Joker B also claimed victory by the same margin after completing a smash and grab at the high flying Sea Lion. In the battle of the bottom two, Windmill made home advantage pay by beating Top Vine 6-3.
07/11/2011
Highlights of the 1st round of the knock out cup were hard fought derby games between the 2 Locomotive teams and the Longton Snooker A and B teams. Both of these games went all the way to a tense final frame, where ultimately the Division One teams edged through despite gallant efforts of the lower Division opposition. Lower division opposition did though gain 2 scalps, one came at the John Marstons as division two leaders Green Baize B came out 5-3 victors over the division one team and the other came at Longton Potters as Joker B also returned home with a 5-3 victory. There were comprehensive 5-2 victories for division one form teams Joker A and Green Baize A over Longton Snooker C and Windmill respectively. Green Baize teams, are they invincible??? Green Baize A are now sitting at the top of Division One all alone after defeating Joker A in the battle of the undefeated teams. Baize extracted revenge upon Joker after being defeated last week in the Chairmans Cup Quarter Final. After going to the last frame all square a timely 8 ball from the Baize was enough to see them claim victory. In the Second Division Green Baize B also made it four out of four it a 6-3 home win against Longton Snooker A. In the top division Joker A are joined by Longton Pool Pussys and John Marstons in joint 2nd place. Pool Pussys overcame Longton Snooker B 6-3 and John Marstons fought out a 5-4 home victory over the inconsistent Locomotive. The two teams without a league win to their names met at the Cuckoo, Longton Potters were the team to open their accounts and return home with the points after overcoming the hosts 6-3.
In Division Two Green Baize B are 2 points clear of Longton Snooker C who carried on their resurgence with a 5-4 victory against Joker B. Joker B are joined on 4 points by Longton Snooker A, Locomotive B and Sea Lion. Locomotive B came out 7-2 victors over Top Vine who had given the hosts a scare by going two nil up. Sea Lion's game against Windmill was cancelled and will be arranged to be played at a later date.
No team games next week as it is SINGLES MERITS. See the drop down menu for the draw.
03/10/2011
Three out of the four group winners progressed through to the semi finals of the Chairmans Cup, the one team to fail were Longton Potters. They were beaten 5-0 on their own turf by the Cuckoo. The other three victors all put home advantage to good use, Locomotive beat John Marstons 5-2 and will now head to the Cuckoo for their Semi Final. Longton Pool Pussys won the local bragging rights with a 5-1 win against Division Two side Longton Snooker A. The other tie saw the two leading lights in Division One meet at the Joker, Joker A overcame the Green Baize A 5-3 and will now host the Pool Pussys in the Semi Finals. They will now visit Locomotive B in the Semi Finals after they beat the Windmill 5-1. Sea Lion returned victorious from the Green Baize after beating Green Baize B 5-1. They will now play host to the Joker B who had a walk over victory against the Top Vine.
26/09/2011
Top of the table Green Baize A continued their impressive start to the season with a white wash victory over Longton Snooker B, Green Baize A could meet their match over the next 2 weeks though as they visit the Joker A twice, in both the Chairmans Cup and then the League. Joker A kept up their 100% league record with a final frame victory away at the Locomotive, who carry on their indifferent league form. Longton Pool Pussys returned to winning ways with a 6-3 win over bottom club Cuckoo. Sharing the bottom spot are Longton Potters who are also winless after losing 5-4 to the John Marstons. Both Cuckoo and Potters will be hoping to find form in the Cup before the return to league action on the 10th October sees these two meet.
Only one team in Division Two still has a 100% record and that is Green Baize B, who came away from the Joker B with the spoils after a tightly fought 5-4 win.
